Meals Sent to Help Out in Wabash Valley Flood 6/9/07 - Many of the residents in Western Indiana and Southeast Illinois who live along the Wabash river woke up to a surprise Saturday morning. Some found water surrounding their homes, while others woke to find water in their homes! Heavy rains throughout the region caused the Wabash River levels to rise, flooding much of the region. Some valley residents were awakened by a call from 911 informing them of the flooding emergency. Others tuned into the local media to see their neighbors being evacuated or rescued from their homes and rooftops. The Red Cross started receiving calls Saturday morning June 7. They responded quickly, and by noon shelters began to open to help flood evacuees. At the request of the Red Cross, HeaterMeals sent meals into the area. On Sunday June 8, The Red Cross, the Air National Guard and the United States Penitentiary in Terre Haute teamed up to airlift cases of water, HeaterMeals and blankets to the town of Worthington in Greene County.
