HeaterMeals Lowers Salt Content
|
12/15/02 - In the last year, HeaterMeals has worked to lower sodium in all its HeaterMeals entrees and HeaterMeals Plus meals kits. In late 2001, the U.S. Army Quartermaster Center's Army Center of Excellence, Subsistence (ACES) at Fort Lee, VA launched a low-sodium initiative for shelf-stable meal kits used by the U. S. Armed Forces that included all Active Duty, Reserves, and National Guard units. Becuase of this initiative, HeaterMeals removed all tasty high sodium accessory favorites like beef jerky and Tabasco hot sauce from military meal kit menus starting in 2002.
In mid 2002, HeaterMeals reduced the sodium level of HeaterMeals Plus Meal Kits by 50%. We included in each meal additional salt & pepper, and a no-salt seasoning packet, to season the meals to your own taste. Our current HeaterMeals Plus Complete Meal Kit with 12 ounce entrée, snacks, and a beverage has approximately the same sodium level as a single HeaterMeals Entrée did in 2001.

In late 2002, we reduced the sodium level of all HeaterMeals Entrees by 50% to 70%. Two of our entrees, Homestyle Chicken & Noodles in Gravy, and Green Pepper Steak with Rice, were qualified as “Low Sodium” entrees. We continued to offer additional salt & pepper condiments with every meal, but also added “Mrs. Dash Salt-Free Original Blend” seasoning. The added salt and pepper condimants, and Mrs. Dash Salt-free Original Blend, will allow users to “Season To Your Taste.”
